Aims
My Documentary is all about 'mothers living without their children' and what i am going to portray in this documentary are things which can teach the audience watching. I am going to create a documentary that looks closey into Match for mothers and also i am going to talk to many different mums without their children and see what the charity has done for them. i dont just want to get one point of view so i am also going to try and get views of a few dads aswell to see what they say about the whole situation with mothers and before the documentary has even begun to be made i know that the dads that i interview are going to be very bias and sexist so i will have to ask question that can swerve these types of answers, i also want to get views from a family counsellor and see how they deal with familys who are in these situations.

I am going to have many interviews with lots of different people who have different opinions so then people watching can get all sides of the story rather than hearing bias answers throughout, the people i am goign to interview are people who are for the charity like mothers who are without their children and the people against will be the men because they can have a different point of view about the subject and i will also interview people like family counsellours because they can be the solution to all the arguing and problems that familys have. I am going to have to explain everything that the charity does for mothers.

Target Audience
The target audience i will be aiming my documentary at are to woman who are aged 16-50, i have chosen women as my main target because the documentary is about women without their children and i think that this docuemnatary can bring all mums together and help them make a stand for what is right. It can also teach everyone what is happening with this situation because i dont think that many people actually know what is happening so it can definately teach everyone something. I also want my documentary to appeal to men as well in a way so they can put there own opinion on the subject.

Format

The modes im going to use are the participatory mode and the expository mode, i chose the participatory mode because i want to be the one who is part of the documentary by asking questions and also talking to camera during different parts in the documentary.
I chose expository mode because i think that i could do a talk over while im showing clips or
something, this is better than just looking at pictures during a documentary.

Genre

The genre of my video is going to be a documentary, I want my video to teach everyone something rather than them watching it and not knowing anything at all, i will have to have infromation that is going to teach the audience smartly. Also i want all of the interviews to be able to be heard and understood properly. i want everyone that watches to be able to express there views at home rather than listening to the views from the documentary. 

Style

Most of the camera work that will be in my documentary is going to be mid shot and long shot and maybe a few close ups to grab the true feelings of the mothers without their children. My editing skills will come in hand here because i will have music that i will have to edit to very wisely otherwise it wouldnt suit my docuemntary. The graphics will have to be very simple so it doesnt look ridiculous when the documentary is fully made.

The documentary i would want mine to look like is the documentary about the bumps on the roads form the one show. The way they laid out the small documentary was good because they were able to get views from many people rather than none at all. They had many interviews from 3 different type of people and they were able to get views which audience can relate to and also be against depending on what is said. If my documentary is slightest like that then i would be happy because it shows me that i got what i needed and i completed the task i was given.

Analyzing the competition

This program is called 'Sleeping with the family' and the channel that this program is from is MTV, it was first broadcasted on Monday 6th April 2014 at 8:00 pm. This show had 115000 views from within the country and this may not seem a lot but it truly is.

This program will have nothing that is similar to how i want my program to look like, my program will be full of facts, and this program is going to be all about what parents and the teenagers want, I chose this documentary as an example because it has children in it and you get to to see how a family is and everything and when i create my documentary your going to see the results of a breakup and the pain that the mum has without her children living with her. This documentary will have nothing similar to mine so our documentaries will be very different. I think my show would have a challenge beating the views that this program got but i don't think it is impossible to do. Because my program is based on teaching many new people new things i think that that would win due to the amount of views i should actually get.




This program is named 'super nanny us' and it is broadcasted on channel 4 and the first one was on Wednesday 14th July 2004 at 1:00 pm. This show has had over 5 million viewers throughout the first series and this number of views is extremely high but there are over channels which can easily double that amount of views.

This show is based on facts being taught to a mum who is finding hard living with her children, she is struggling so she brought in someone to help her out. This show will definitely teach people like my video would and due to this it gained a lot of viewers so i would definitely hope that the similarity will gain the same amount of viewers, The own similarity from this example is the fact that she is a single mother raising two children, this is a kind off similarity because mine would be about the mums but the only difference is having the mum living without the children and you will be able to see the pain that they have due to this. My show would beat the amount of views that this show got because mine is something that hasn't been shown on TV before and i think that just because of that i think it will get more views.



This program is named 'The Jeremy Kyle show' and it was shown on ITV and the first program was broadcasted on 4th July 2005 at 9:25 am. The amount of views this program got was 2 million views and i think that this is a respectable number for this type of program.

This shows similarities are nothing like me because this show is more about talking and having many guests on the show, my show will be different because i will be talking to many people on there own rather than having a group of people talking together all at once or one at a time Also this show is made for people to have arguments and be horrible to one another, my documentary that i am hoping to make will allow the mums to open up and say how they feel without anyone bringing them down. My video would beat this show in views because it is all about learning something new rather than experiencing the old, and when people get the chance to learn something new, they will take that opportunity up.


1) Based on this research, what broadcast day and time would best suit your documentary magazine show?
Well for my idea its all about mums and how they feel living without their children whether it is long distance, or if the dad has taken the child away through divorce. so i think when i pick my broadcast time and everything i will have to be specific otherwise i can chose the wrong time. The show out of these three i would chose to broadcast my show would be ITV because this is a program which many people watch and i naturally think my program would fit comfortably what is already shown. I would chose a time of around 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm, i think that this time would be perfect because it will be when most people are sitting down watching TV and i know that many people watching will want to see what it is about rather than not knowing anything about it but i would also say that there can be many people who are against a program like mine due to people favoring the opposite sex, it will be traditional that women will be more drawn to this subject than men but i don't want that to happen because i want people to see both sides of the story rather than hearing about farther's for justice all the time. I think my documentary will work well when it is done with the timing and show i wish to put my show on to.

1)What does the organisation (matchmothers) actually do?
Well this organisation is a charity which has started up for mothers who are apart from their children and it basically supports this women and gives them hope and also stops them from being sad all the time. You also get to hear the many views of other women who are without their children as well and they say that when you open up about something you feel so much better and that is probably there moral as the charity.

A quote from the website which basically explain what it does is,
'MATCH is a charity that offers non-judgemental support and information to mothers apart from their children in a wide variety of circumstances. 2)How do mums benefit from joining this organisation?
Mums definitely benefit from joining this because they get to express how they feel without having the mic taken out of them like others may have had before, so this charity supplies confidential chats where they can say anything they want with other mothers listening as well and it is good for the mothers to do this because then they can get support with the whole situation that they are in. They also know that they have that secure thing to bounce back on to when they are likely to be in need of help or to just be in need of a question that needs answering but the positives for these women is that it always there to help you no matter what.

It also supports many mums from different points of view rather than just the stereo typical one of parents being divorced. This picture shows the other ways a mum can be apart from their child.

3)Have mums thought about making there opinions global?
There are always mums joining this charity and they are also having there opinions kept quite for the time being but i know for a matter of fact that they want to so the organisation can become relatively popular like farther for justice but for the time being i think the organisation and all mums are just going to stick with the website and also the closed chats that they have going on all over the country. If the mums do want to start making there point global then i wouldnt see anything getting in the way of them being able to do this, i would like to see this happen just so mums have somewhere to stand in an argument instead of always being over powered by farthers for justice. I also think that many mums want to have the same level of acknowledgement as fathers for justice and they can only do this if they want to make a stand.

This quote from the home page from the website is basically saying that the main thing is their children rather than how they feel. The charity doesn't want mums to put pressure on the children, they want the children to make there own choices and this also may be why mums dont want to make a big deal out of it like farthers for justice have done.

4)How long has the organisation been running and has numbers increased since?
This organisation has been running for more than 20 years and it has been going really strong. The numbers are always increasing so they would have increased by more than 70% since. The organisation is always increasing every day and many new comers who are completely new to this experience are able to join this and go to chats to fully explain there storys with many other mums who are in the same position. There is no sign that the organisation is going to stop so for many on going years the organisation will just keep increasing dramatically. And as i said new mums will not have to keep there story quite. i found out these facts from my mum who helps with this organisation.

5)What is the organisations long term goal?
I would say that the organisations long term goal is to keep it running smoothly and also adding many new members from all over the country, My aim during my documentary would be to find out wether they are going to make things global for the whole country to know about and i would also like to see if they have any interests in making it avaliable for all countries rather than just ours. The organisation would just like to spread all the mothers story's to other mothers and also to be able to carry on helping them out with there problems.

How has this research developed your documentary idea?
The research is definitely hard to find because the website that i used (http://www.matchmothers.org) doesn't really have exclusive information that i could use to help me out with my documentary idea, so when i actually come to filming it, i am going to have to be very committed with my questions to my interviewees and also i will have to make sure i can get access to these people so i can ask them questions and find out more answers in depth, its a shame because i wanted to find out loads of information in depth rather than not knowing anything at all, i think i found out the basics of the charity but i say that a few questions i needed answers for cant really be answered from a certain website. But the research has made me more confident with doing this idea because it shows me that i can find out information that i don't know and also maybe my audience wont actually know. so i think it is good to teach me and also teach the audience something new.
